The Retreat Bungalow is places on a piece of land-landscaped by nature. As we drive up the Vagamon hills heading towards the Kurisumala rock ridges the rough dubbled road moves onward to reach a cliff on which the bungalow is situated.

The old style building is built on the foot of the huge Kurisumala pilgrim rock that can be seen on the southern side of the bungalow. The sloped tin roofed and granite masoned building has a tiny eastward facing portico at the front. As you enter the living room and the dining room your eyes are sure to be catch the long stretches of medows flowing down the west side of the bungalow. The valley just fades away into the horizon as if waiting for the breathtaking sunset.

The two spacious and well-spread bedrooms are on the south and north. There is a swimming pool inside the house, set on the western passage connecting the two bedrooms diagonally set apart. The four-poster wooden furniture with intricate designs seen around is unique pieces collected by the host, Mr. Jacob Mathew Kurvinakunnel. The living room has comfortable sofas with pluch upholstery into which one can sink in and enjoy the view of the valley below feeling the little warmth of the fire burning inside the built in fireplace .

In and Around

Vagamon is around 1000m. Above sea level, offering salubrious climatic conditions. It's a unique place with its undulating meadows, tea gardens and terraced land with heavy rock formations offering three pilgrim centers and a meditation ashram.

The Kurisumala is a pilgrim center which has a ‘way of the Cross, ' set atop a huge rock which can be climbed from two directions.

The Murugan Temple is also built on a rock seen across the eastern side of the bungalow. A pilgrim place called ‘Thangal rock' is also visited by many Muslims.

At evening of golf, snooker and leisure activities can be arranged at Peermade Club.

A lazy evening can be spend on the ‘ park bench' put on the edge of the cliff, from where one can see the sun go down.

A visit to Old Tharavadu the ancestral home of the host is worth a feel of it Kerala architecture done on woodwork.

A rough jeep drive down to the Mundakayam valley via Yendayar visiting J.J. Murphy Bungalow is interesting for people with such mind bend towards history. It commands breathtaking view of the valley.
