The colonial style bungalow with medium pitched sheet roof and cut rock walls masoned only on the edges was built in 1953. The building stands aloof from the madding crowd on the Erunnakutty hill, a beautiful strip of land developed by the early planters at Koottical in Mundakayam Valley . The Erunnakutty household's association with the west later spread to the west coast in Kochi to hold major shares in Darraghsmail & Co. and to take over its operations as forwarders and exporters from the early 60s till date.
he granite and tarmac paved driveway leads up to the front of the bungalows, margined by shady trees on all four sides. There is a verandah on the west with the lawn flowing up to the mud-tiled floorings, setting a perfect place to relax and have a cup of coffee or tea. The flame of the forest trees, nattu mangroves and a thick grove of shady trees form the boundary to the natural greenery sprawling downwards. The view from the western corner of the lawn is an unlimited stretch of plantations and settlements across Sahya mountain ranges. The furniture have strong influence of Queen Anne and mid Victorian styles, among which is a cheval glass mirror an old radiogram, a grand piano. A cut glass table lamp kept in the drawing room catches your attention as you enter in to the bungalow.
The wall adorns interesting paintings collected by the host Mr. Thomas Joseph.
There is a semicircle room with large glass windows on the northeast to enjoy your priorities in its coziness in total privacy.

| In and Around |
Being a commercial rubber plantation area there are a number of small and large estates in and around Kootickal. Small walks along the estates down to the brooks and streams are sure to be a refreshing and invigorating experience. The Valley which was once a thick forest of varied timbers and herbs now has been converted to pepper, rubber, vanilla and coffee plantations of small, medium and large holdings, and has to an extent lost its virgin wooded textures, but the mountains which ascends up the boundaries of these private holdings still offer some 200 species of trees and herbs. |
