Colonel's Retreat at Mavady Hills is owned and managed by Lt. Col. Jose Vallikappan (Retd.) and his wife Annamma.

Jose is a retired Cavalry officer of the Indian Army who is a nature lover and a columnist of The Week , one of India's leading English magazines. He has a flair for guest relations and the famed British columnist Bernard Levin once wrote glowingly about him in The Times, London. Jose was described as Levin's "friend, guide and guard" during his visit to Kerala. Annamma is a graduate in Home Science with an aptitude for cookery and gardening. Colonel's Retreat is indeed a labour of love for Jose and Annamma who hail from a traditional Syrian Christian family of the area.

Colonel's Retreat at Mavady Hills offers exclusive premium Homestay facilities for individuals and families in three large bedrooms with spacious balconies, which are almost suspended in the foliage, and overlook the forest stream cascading over the rocks below. The Retreat has all modern amenities and is set in the picture-postcard surroundings of a sprawling plantation. The climate at Mavady Hills is salubrious throughout the year. The place is mosquito free.

Delicious home-cooked ethnic Kerala food with farm-fresh spices, vegetables and fruits is served. The fresh filter coffee is from our own plantation. Water served is from the natural spring located at site, and is so fresh and pure that not only can you savour its taste but also feel its softness as it foams through your hands.
